  • General admission requirements
The most frequent way to be admitted in a 1st cycle degree programme at ISCEM is the students' completion of the secondary education's 12th grade, or legal equivalent studies.
The access is based on the applicant's marks, which are essentially the result of the final evaluation of the secondary education (65%) and the classification of the higher education entrance examinations (35%) that are required by each degree programme.
All the classifications must be at least 9,5 values.
Depending on the application mark and according to the limited number of vacancies in each degree programme, students are placed in the degree programme. However, there are other ways of being admitted in a 1st cycle degree programme at ISCEM, namely the following:
1) Special access conditions: to have successfully completed the special entrance examinations aimed at evaluating the capacity of those aged over 23 to attend higher education;
2) Regime of course's change or transfer:
a) Students who have been registered and enrolled in a higher education course at a national higher education institution and have not completed it;
b) Students who have been enrolled and registered at a foreign higher education institution in a course considered as part of the higher education system by the legislation of the concerned country, regardless of whether the course was completed.
3) Regime of re-enrolment for those students who have been enrolled and registered at ISCEM in the same course or in another one that may have preceded the former.
The Scientific Councils of the Faculties may accept requests of course's change, transfer and re-enrolment at any time during the academic year, as long as they consider that they have or are able to create the necessary conditions for the integration of the candidates in the concerned courses.
The 2nd cycle degree programmes are ruled by the following admission requirements:
To have successfully completed the 1st cycle degree or equivalent;
Applicants for registration will be selected on the following criteria:
a) Classification of the 1st cycle degree;
b) Curriculum Vitae
c) Interview if necessary.
  •  Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning: Formal
Any citizen over 23 years old who does not have the secondary education diploma (12th grade) can attempt to gain admission to a limited number of vacant places available, through special examination which includes an interview (Decree law: Decreto-Lei 64/2006, de 21 de Março).
In accordance with the current legislation (Portaria 401/2007, of Abril 5th and Decreto Lei 64/2006, of March 21st) ISCEM recognizes and credits skills acquired in professional and other contexts for academic purposes.
  • ECTS credit allocation based on the student workload needed in order to achieve expected learning outcomes(recognition procedure)
ECTS credits are value allocated to course units to describe the student workload required to complete them. The credits express the quantity of work which every course unit requires with respect to a full year´s study at the institution, that is: lectures, practical work, seminars, traineeships, research or surveys, personal study - either at home or in the library - together with exams and other forms of student assessment. ECTS is, therefore, based on the overall workload of the student. In ECTS, 60 credits represent one year of study ( in terms of workload); and 30 credits are given for a semester.
ISCEM has been making considerable effort to improve and sustain the quality of its mobility activities, where numbers and figures do not matter without being associated to meaningful, reliable, accredited and valid international mobility periods.
Academic Recognition is a necessary condition for student mobility at ISCEM. ECTS tools are properly elaborated, filled in and implemented, as well as the guiding principles of this scheme fully respected: Application Form, Learning Agreement, Transcript of Records (before and after the study period), Credits, Grades, etc. Compulsory internal procedures have been defined in parallel, aimed at facilitating and turning this process into a more transparent, automatic and trustworthy mechanism.
There are two official and compulsory documents, the Learning Agreement and the Certified of Studies, must be finalized and fully approved before the beginning of the mobility period, independently of any future alteration considered necessary.
Once the study period reaches its end, Director forwards the Transcript of Records sent by the host institution (with the indication of the results and credits obtained by the student) to the Scientific Council, so that the final phase of the equivalence process can be carried out.
